A 19-year-old boy, Júlio, comes to Lisbon to try his luck as a shoemaker. The day he arrives in Lisbon, an accident makes him meet Ilda, a girl of the same age, a domestic worker in a building near Júlio's workplace. As the movie unfolds, a love affair is born between the two, stronger on the part of Júlio, who, jealous and feeling himself in a strange and hostile atmosphere, is permanently suspicious of Ilda, which leads her to break up. In a moment of impulsive anger, Julio ends up killing her.
